The Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) supports the academic and research mission of the Georgia Institute of Technology by providing quality legal services to the campus community. OLA seeks to facilitate an environment that minimizes Georgia Tech's legal liabilities through preventive measures by encouraging compliance with local, state, and federal laws through training, consultation and review, while simultaneously providing in-depth analysis of existing liabilities and recommendations designed to minimize Georgia Tech's exposure. OLA strives to develop positive solutions that advance the goals and programs of Georgia Tech within the bounds of the law.
OLA is staffed by eight lawyers and three legal assistants. The office handles all legal matters related to the Institute other than litigation. Tasks performed by OLA include drafting and interpreting policies, advising on laws pertaining to employment and civil rights, intellectual property, tax, contracts, student issues, legislation, and many other substantive areas.
